NFL POWER RANKINGS - WEEK 17
BY SENIOR WRITER: Russ Sheeler
  TEAM "THE SKINNY"
32 St Louis Rams

Only having one offensive weapon in Stephen Jackson doesn't help the fact Steve Spagnoli has his work cut out for him this off-season, lots of reflection going on here, and there's still one more week to play!

31 Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Yes they beat the Saints, but can that defense play well two weeks in a row? Statistically speaking the answer is no.

30 Oakland Raiders

They got pounded by a 3-11 team and look terrible behind center. Charlie Frye isn't the answer; neither is Jamarcus Russell, evident with Frye throwing 3 INTS and not being pulled for Russell!

29 Detroit Lions

Not a good football team but they have some playmakers on offense as long as they stay healthy. Memo to Lions, put Stafford on IR and draft OT Campbell with your 1st Round pick! Can't invest that much money in a QB and have him killed due to lack of blocking!

28 Kansas City Chiefs

Similar to the Browns, Lions, and Rams first year head coach Todd Haley is trying to change the culture of the Chiefs. One thing is evident - the Chiefs play hard game in and game out. The 09 draft was defense heavy and has showed some hope for Chiefs fans. They played a tough Cincinnati team to the final tick, showing this team hasn't quit on Haley.

27 Cleveland Browns They have found the running game, hiding the fact the QB play has been shaky at best during the three game win streak. Mangini has this team playing hard and hungry, something evidently missing the past decade!
26 Buffalo Bills This team is terrible and Terrell Owens thinks he might want to come back?! Guess TO is out of options; Can Jim Kelly come out of retirement?
25 Washington Redskins When does Shanahan sign and change this team into the finesse offense of the NFC East? Three words, not gonna work!
24 Seattle Seahawks This team is about to rebuild so does Mora stay? The list of needs this team has is long. How are they not ranked lower than the Browns, Redskins and Bills: record. Has the team quit on Mora? Good question because they were definitely out played this past week!
23 Two first round picks in 2009 and 2010 a third rounder in 2010 and Orton for Cutler equals 6-9? Great victory Monday Night against the Vikings, may have saved Lovie Smith!
22 Jacksonville Jaguars The only thing going for Jacksonville is they play Cleveland in week 17, which is probably not an easy win now that the Browns can run the ball. They are one of those teams you can't believe is 7-8.
21 NY Giants Started 5-0 and are now 8-7. Any questions?
20 How does a team with two good RBs not win more games? Easy, they can't stop anyone and fall so behind they can't run the ball. Attribute a lot of the poor season to the QB play, I believe Delhomme has 8 TD passes compared to 18 INTS. Two quality wins against the Giants and the Vikings have optimism on the horizon; can Matt Moore stay hot and keep the momentum to win out?
19 San Francisco 49ers You think the emergence of Vernon Davis has helped with Alex Smith finally becoming worthy of the 1st overall pick? maybe…
18 Miami Dolphins Just like any Parcels team - they play hard. They are just missing a few key players to push themselves to the top. The loss to Houston didn't help their playoff hopes.
17 Atlanta Falcons Think the Falcons are kicking themselves for running Michael Turner so much last year? I don't know but they might want to shore up that defense for next year if they want to win!
16 Tennessee Titans Chris Johnson needs 138 yards to break 2000, too bad they lost their first 6 games! Losing to the Chargers in week 16 was tough.
15 Baltimore Ravens I know they're known for their defense but I'm not sure the aging defense is going to be great for much longer. Newsome may want to start scouting his next Ray Lewis.
14 Pittsburgh Steelers Can the win against rival Baltimore erase the losses to Cleveland and Kansas City? No. They need a lot of help!
13 Houston Texans The can score points, but can they make a stop when it counts? According to last week the answer is yes, but the 8-7 record states otherwise. Still my pick to secure the last playoff spot though.
12 NY Jets Growing pains with a rookie head coach and rookie QB, but have they have showed enough heart and grit to make the playoffs? The win over the Colts was big even though the Colts rested most of their starters after the 3rd quarter
11 Chicago Bears Jay Cutler who? Looks like Orton is as good as Cutler and they get another pick in the first round this year for him! Looking like the Broncos will make the playoffs and short one pre-madonna QB!
10 Cincinnati Bengals Carson Palmer has not looked good all season, so can the death of Chris Henry propel the team to compete in the playoffs? I doubt it. The AFC is stacked with great teams and Cincy is only average.
9 Detroit Lions They clinched a playoff birth but can Romo finally live up to the hype his contract has caused him? I say run the ball more and Romo becomes a Pro Bowl QB on a winning team!
8 Minnesota Vikings When you have AP how do you let Brett Favre lose games for you? Great beginning to the season, but Favre is starting to look like the QB that cost Mangini his job in NY!
7 New England Patriots New England is New England, but does this team and their coach have "diminished" skills? The dynasty may be over.
6 Arizona Cardinals They can now play defense so can this be a repeat to the Super Bowl? It appears the stars are starting to align themselves again.
5 Green Bay Packers Aaron Rodgers now has an offensive line that can block making this team a dangerous team to face in the playoffs. Look for the Packers to go deep in the playoffs!
4 Philadelphia Eagles The offense is running on all cylinders and the defense is not too shabby either! Did I mention Westbrook is back?
3 New Orleans Saints They've now lost two in a row and the defense is now showing the signs of an injury plagued secondary.
2 Indianapolis Colts It's not because they lost their first game but rather because San Diego is looking like the team we all expected the last two years. Colts, you play to win the game!
1 San Diego Chargers They have now hit full steam, with an All Pro QB, Hall of Fame RB and two fast 6ft-3+ WRs along with Antonio Gates! This team finds ways to win games!
